Important steps after you purchase a home

Whether you’re a first-time buyer or a repeat buyer, you’ll want to take a few more steps after you close on your house.
  • The papers you received at the closing are extremely valuable. Be sure you hold onto them because they will help establish tax deductions for the year in which the property was purchased and when the property is sold in the future. In some cases, they may be used for calculating estate taxes.
  • Many owners make a photo or video record of the home and their possessions for insurance purposes. Your insurance agent can recommend what to photograph and how to secure it.
